Countertops

ST-3

New countertops will dramatically change any kitchen into a more luxurious environment.
Countertops must be durable and resistant to the damaging elements of moisture, heat, stains, etc.
We, at L.A. Dream Kitchens, carry two major types of countertops: Natural Stone and Solid Surface.
Natural Stone

Of the different choices of natural stone for countertops, granite is the most popular because of its durability. The classic look of granite will always be in style.

This beautiful natural material is very resistant to stains, chips and scratches, is heat- and waterproof, and is easy to clean.

Stone surfaces are cool to the touch–perfect for rolling pastry and preparing meat and fish. We carry granite in a very wide range of colors.

We also carry pre-fabricated granite counter tops (96″ x 25 .5″ x .75″) in different colors and materials.

How to take care of your natural stone surface:

Marble, granite and travertire are natural stones. These natural stones may be damaged by any acid, soap, lemon, even tea or milk. Among these natural stones, granite is the hardest and most resistant to acid. Some easy care will keep your beautiful granite counter tops look like new forever.

Sealing: All stone is porous and needs to be sealed periodically. Sealing fills the pores and prevents staining liquids from penetrating. Sealing does not protect the surface of the stone, so quick clean up of spills important. We recommend a resin-based penetrating sealer for the best protection. Sprinkle a few drops of water on your surface. If they bead up, the sealer is adequate. If they quickly soak in, it is time to re-seal the stone.

Cleaning: Generally, the best care for stone is to keep it clean and buffed. Around faucets especially, wiping off the water will prevent a mineral buildup (a whitish, dull residue on the stone). For cleaning marble, always use neutral cleaner. Any acid will damage the marble. Acid does not harm granite, but oil will soak in, leaving a darker area. Wipe up oil spills and splatters immediately, using a mild household cleaner. Rinse and buff dry. In most cases, stone can be kept clean by wiping with a damp cloth and buffing dry. For flooring, a good walk-off mat outside the entrance will help prevent tracked-in grit from scratching that surface. A regular program of cleaning and buffing will keep up the shine.

Polishing: A light polish on a tabletop will help in a limited way against water rings. Coasters are more effective. Layers of wax on a floor will yellow, smudge, and track. Some waxes will add slipperiness. Keeping the floor clean and buffed is the best way to preserve the beauty.

Solid Surface

Solid surfaces are extremely versatile materials made from a blend of mineral powders and resins.

They are similar to natural stone because it is durable, water and heat resistant, nonporous and easy to clean.

Seams between slabs are virtually invisible and blemishes and scratches can be sanded out completely.
